mutable landscapes artist statements:
dominic redfern is a (video) artist who uses his own image in his work
melissa delaney is a (video) artist who uses her own body in her work
both artists graduated from charles sturt university - riverina

on the first day of the residency we arranged to meet and drive together to check out our site for the mutable landscapes project - which is the hill land covered with granite rocks surrounding the csu university. we drove around the site and then decided to go to the university’s art school where we had both studied. the school had undergone quite a bit of change since our time there; the undergrad program had been morphed and cut over the years until many of the studios were deserted. we were both quite struck by the experience and our ideas for the work became centred on this strong sense of absence and after images, like a post apocalyptic movie where nature takes over and ghosts take up residence. in the absence of students this purpose built space now lacked purpose and the school became the obvious location to fuse context and content in our installation.
